How to Sing the Mass for Clergy and Musicians
How to Sing the Mass gives an introduction to singing the chants provided in the Roman Missal. By studying the chants of the Mass and then singing the liturgy, we enter into the sung dialogue of the Trinity. As a resources for those new to chant in liturgy, as well as those seeking a refresher, this course is designed to build confidence in joining our voices with the angels and saints in Heaven.

Your Instructor
Alexis Kazimira Kutarna was born and raised in Canada and has been involved in church music ever since she was a child. Ms. Kutarna earned the Master of Arts in Liturgy at The Liturgical Institute at the University of St. Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary, where she wrote her thesis on “The Sacramental Nature of Sacred Music.” She holds Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in music, as well as a Performer’s Certificate. Ms. Kutarna is a PhD Candidate in Liturgical Studies with a concentration in Church Music at the University of Vienna. She has a special interest in the spirituality of liturgical music, and has worked with singers of all ages, having served as a parish music and liturgy director, and as the Director of Music at St. Mary’s Seminary in Houston. Ms. Kutarna teaches the summer chant course for the St. Basil School of Gregorian Chant as well as offering workshops around the country. She is the music director and an assistant principal at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic School. As a core instructor for the Master of Sacred Music program, she teaches courses on the liturgy and liturgical music at the University of St. Thomas in Houston, TX. Most important is her vocation as wife and mother to two little girls.
